Levi Coffin State Historic Site: Underground Railroad Depot
It was a dangerous journey for slaves escaping to freedom. As conductors for the Underground Railroad, Levi Coffin and his wife, Catharine, helped over 2,000 refugees to safety while living in Newport (now Fountain City) Indiana.

SCHOOL GROUP TOURS
Levi Coffin School Group Tour
April – October 2011; April – October 2012
Grades 3 – 12
Fee: $1 per participant; Pre-registration required at least one month in advance.
The tour features Levi and Catharine Coffin’s amazing contributions to the Abolitionist movement; the many dangers facing freedom seekers; the Underground Railroad network including free African-American communities that helped former slaves escape; and early 19th century culture, architecture and technology in this Quaker community.
