Visitors to Whitewater Canal State Historic Site can tour a grist mill, ride a horse-drawn boat and shop. Special activities take place throughout the year.
Special Events
Towpath 10K Dash and Fun Run
May 19, 2012; 8 a.m.
$25 per person
Experience the rich history and breathtaking beauty of the Whitewater Valley during this sanctioned 10k running race and a shorter one, two or three-mile fun run. All ages are invited to pre-register or sign up the day of the event. Those who pre-register by May 1 for the Towpath 10K will receive a free t-shirt! In conjunction with the Whitewater Canal Trail.
Kid’s Discount Day
Aug. 11, 2012; noon, 1, 2, 3 and 4 p.m.
$4 per adult, $2 per child (with every regular adult admission, two children can ride at half price)
For every adult or senior admission, up to two children’s admissions will be half price to ride the Ben Franklin III.
It’s Twilight Time Again!
Sept. 8, 2012; dinner: 5 – 7 p.m.; cruises: 7:15 and 8 p.m., wine and cheese tasting: 5 – 9 p.m.
$35 per person; reservations required
Enjoy a catered dinner in the Grist Mill Park, taste wine, cheese and chocolate while listening to live music. Ride a horse-drawn carriage to the boat dock to take a twilight cruise on the Ben Franklin III canal boat. After the cruise, guests can enjoy more music, wine and cheese as well as lawn games at the park.
A Voyage Through Time: Life Along the Whitewater Canal
Sept. 15, 2012; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
No admission fees charged except for canal boat rides on the Ben Franklin III
Reservations for the canal boat ride for large groups are recommended
Enjoy a day of historic demonstrations at our site and throughout the town of Metamora. Indiana artisans will demonstrate fiber arts, blacksmithing, wood carving, sorghum molasses making, hearth cooking, and 1850's gardening and herbs. An Indiana group of Civil War Re-enactors will also make camp in the Metamora Grist Mill Park.
Spooky Halloween Cruises
Oct. 13, 20, 2012; 7:30, 8, 8:30 and 9 p.m.
$4 per person
The Ben Franklin III will be hauntingly decorated for night cruises and staff will be dressed in costumes for the occasion. A narrator will be on boat recounting ghostly tales of the past during the cruise and children will receive a sweet treat after the cruise is completed.
