Out-of-School Enrichment Outreach Programs

We bring hands-on, inquiry-based learning to your location. Each session is led by museum staff for up to 25 participants for a one-hour program and is geared toward grades K-12.

  • Students in K-3rd grade will be challenged with hands-on  activities that are designed to get them thinking about STEAM.  Your students will make, create, tinker and play while addressing real-world problems! Watch as your students explore sensory awareness and regulation as they paint and construct their own art masterpiece, all while discovering what love and forgiveness mean to them and others.  Celebrate their engineering skills as they tinker with everyday objects and transform them into new feats of engineering.
  • Students in grades 4-6 will build skills like collaboration,  communication and critical thinking through inquiry-based activities designed to challenge their inner engineers and storytellers. Students will collaborate with peers to exercise flexibility and adaptability to explore patterns, color, and texture. Watch as they create chain-reaction contraptions that use everyday objects to complete simple tasks in the most overcomplicated, inefficient, and hilarious ways possible!
  • Students in grades 7–8 will explore how art can be a form of self-expression. Students will have the opportunity to create a collaborative masterpiece that will reflect their emotions, thoughts, and actions. Engage with your students as they exercise decision-making skills through their artistic choices. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the science and biology behind the human brain, and use inquiry-based learning to investigate brain chemistry.
  • We encourage students in grades 7-12 to take a fieldtrip to the Indiana State Museum to see FIX: Heartbreak and Hope Inside Our Opioid Crisis. This experience will give your students insight into the opioid crisis right here in Indiana. They will learn personal  stories from impacted Hoosiers, the science and biology  behind the disorder and much more. Students will face  social awareness through hands-on installations, art,  science, multi-media and interactive artwork. Follow up with an outreach program at your location where we will process our emotions by creating a collaborative art masterpiece.  We recommend at least two programs at your location to complete the collaborative art piece.

  • $150/60-minute program; $100/each additional session
  • Travel fees: 30-60 miles=$20; 60-90 miles=$40; 90+ miles=$60
  • Please contact Katie Hunt, k-12 education specialist, at Khunt1@indianamuseum.org or Jessica Stephens, youth programs manager, at 317.232.8293 or Jstephens2@indianamuseum.org for more information or to discuss customizing your program.
