    Geek out with other science fans at this 21+ book club! Each month, an expert scientist will join facilitator Cari Lewis Tsinovoi of Central Indiana Science Outreach to talk about a popular science-themed book. This month, discuss the book “Hidden Figures: The American Dream and the Untold Story of the Black Women Mathematicians Who Helped Win the Space Race,” by Margot Lee Shetterly. The discussion will be joined by Kerrie Wilkens-Yel, PhD, School of Education, I.U. Bloomington.

    This program is a collaboration between the Indiana State Museum, CINSO, Indiana Humanities and Science March Indianapolis.

  • Eggstravaganza

    Lanier Mansion State Historic Site

    The annual Eggstravaganza at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site will take place at the Lanier-Madison Visitor Center and the surrounding grounds of the site on Saturday, March 24, 2018 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Easter activities for children ages 3 to 10 include storytelling, making a craft, face painting and a visit with the Easter Bunny.

    There will be three egg hunts: toddlers to 4 year olds will be held at 12:40 p.m.,; 5 to 7 year olds will be held at 12:45 p.m.; and 8 to 10 year olds will be held at 12:50 p.m. There will be one special egg for each age level. Children who collect a special egg will win a prize.

    Admission is $3 per child. Adults are free.

    Pinewood Derby returns to the Indiana State Museum with its impressive two-story, 125-foot race track! Join us for Fun Runs, the official race and a Best in Show competition. 

    Fun Runs: Tuesday-Friday, April 3-6, 10am-5pm; Sunday, April 8, 11am-5pm. Race and test your car's performance!

    Race Day: Saturday, April 7, 10am-5pm. Enter to race (by noon) in one of two categories: ages 5-16 must register as youth; ages 17+ must register as adult.

    Best in Show competition: Saturday, April 7. Enter your Pinewood Derby car (by 2pm) for a chance to take home a ribbon or trophy. Cars will be awarded based on their design. Participants ages 5-16 must enter in the youth category; ages 17+ must enter the adult category.

    Spring Break Adventure Campers (ages 8-12) will find out what happens behind the scenes at the museum by exploring different collections, visiting with curators, and discovering what's new in the galleries. Each day a new topic will be covered through fun activities and hands-on projects. Book a whole week, or pick and choose the days you want!

    CAMP DATES AND FEES
    Dates: March 26-30 and April 2-6, 2018.

    Full week fee: Members pay $210 per week; Non-members pay $235 per week.

    Single day fee: Members pay $45 per day; Non-members pay $50 per day.

    BEFORE AND AFTER CARE
    Camp days begin at 9 am and end at 4 pm. If you are in need of before care (8 – 9 am) and/or after care (4 – 5:30 pm), its available for an additional fee.

    Pinewood Derby returns to the Indiana State Museum with its impressive two-story, 125-foot race track! Join us for Fun Runs, the official race and a Best in Show competition. 

    Fun Runs: Tuesday-Friday, April 3-6, 10am-5pm; Sunday, April 8, 11am-5pm. Race and test your car's performance!

    Race Day: Saturday, April 7, 10am-5pm. Enter to race (by noon) in one of two categories: ages 5-16 must register as youth; ages 17+ must register as adult.

    Best in Show competition: Saturday, April 7. Enter your Pinewood Derby car (by 2pm) for a chance to take home a ribbon or trophy. Cars will be awarded based on their design. Participants ages 5-16 must enter in the youth category; ages 17+ must enter the adult category.

    Innovative Hoosier students are invited to get involved in becoming the solution to global climate issues. Students can submit science fair projects on a range of topics including aquaculture, vermiculture, composting, social awareness, urban farming, alternative fuel and recycling initiatives in their schools and communities.
