  • Small Wonders: Winter Wonderland

    Children will be inspired by the winter world around them. From investigating snowflakes and ice, kids will explore all things winter! Other activities include an interactive story time, snowy sensory play, and card making.

    Small Wonders invites parents, grandparents, and caregivers and their 3- to 5-year-olds to learn, play and discover in the museum. Our monthly program will build your child’s sense of wonder and playfulness as they engage in storytelling, hands-on activities, music, movement, art and gallery exploration. 

    Cost: $9 members/$12 non-members

The count has occurred for 118 years, and birdwatchers of all skill levels are welcome as staff, volunteers and participants hit the fields to assist the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

    Little Learners offers different STEAM-based, hands-on experiences like station explorations, story time, and collaborative projects for 3- to 5-year-olds. The last 30 minutes will be comprised of free-choice play, allowing the child to build creativity, foster decision-making skills and independence. This month, we will become engineers as we plan and design our own cardboard creations. Children will also conduct hands-on experiments with cardboard and explore art. Other activities include an interactive story time, stations, and free-choice play.  

    This program is offered concurrent with Homeschool Tuesdays to accommodate families with the littlest learners. While the big kids enjoy STEAM-based activities and explore, so will their youngest siblings in this companion program.

    Students will connect to the museum on a deeper level as they interact with hands-on, minds-on activities throughout the museum on these special STEAM Days. Look for a special bonus in the Education Center for a design challenge that will complement our Cardboard Engineering experience. Students will have a real-world challenge to try to solve using low cost/recycled materials.

    How do you contribute to air, water and land pollution, and how does this affect ecosystems? Scouts will evaluate their own use of natural resources and explore how we can reduce our carbon footprint. Scouts will visit our galleries to see how humans have changed the Indiana landscape.

    Enjoy a hearty brunch at the Carriage House, then take a walking tour through Gene’s woods and her formal gardens. You’ll see for yourself why she called them the “Wildflower Woods” and learn many of the old-fashioned common names for wildflowers used in her time.

    Experience the natural beauty and incredible wildlife of Brown County during this annual outdoor cooperative event April 26 through 28. Enjoy wildflower and bird walks, wetlands hikes, a boat trip on Lake Monroe and opportunities for nature photography. All hikes are free.
