The Indianapolis Municipal Band returns to the Indiana State Museum for the annual Veteran’s Day concert, capping the museum’s Heroes from the Heartland program. Guest conductor this year is Colonel Thomas Palmatier of the United States Army Band.
The concert features a program of patriotic pieces, including several marches such as The Stars and Stripes Forever and is under the direction of Dr. Daniel Bolin; associate director is Mr. John Marshall.
The ensemble began in 1949 as an employee activity for the members of Detroit Diesel Allison, a division of General Motors. It was known at that time as the Allison Military Band and numbered 15-20 players.
In 1983 the band incorporated as an independent group and adopted its current name. In 2007, after serving as director since 1972, Ed Axsom stepped down and Bolin, chair of the music department at Butler University, was tapped for the position.
