#DidYouKnow James Whitcomb Riley, a Greenfield nat #DidYouKnow James Whitcomb Riley, a Greenfield native known as "the poet of the common people," was born #OnThisDay in 1849?

Some of his best-known works include “Little Orphant Annie,” “The Raggedy Man” and “An Old Sweetheart of Mine."

This portrait of Riley, which is part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites collection, has a handwritten note on the back that says the painting was created in 1914 by Indiana artist Marie Goth at Riley's home in Lockerbie.
