How do I become a member?
Becoming an Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS) member is easy! Join us at any of our 12 locations statewide to purchase your membership in person, visit us online, or call us by phone at 317.232.1637.
If I decide to become a member, can my admission that day be applied toward the purchase of my membership?
Yes. Our Visitor Services team will be happy to apply the cost of your general admission ticket(s) to your new membership.
Only applicable on the day of the general admission purchase.
When will I receive my membership cards?
Your membership cards will arrive in the mail approximately two weeks from time of purchase.
What if I am planning a visit, but haven’t received my cards yet?
No worries. Once you have purchased your membership, you can visit any time. Simply provide a valid photo ID upon check in at the Museum Ticket Counter and we will look up your membership.
Can I purchase a gift membership for friends or family?
Absolutely! Gift memberships can be purchased in person at any of our 12 locations, online or by phone at 317.232.1637.
Can I get a refund on my membership?
Memberships are non-refundable and non-transferable. If you are unhappy with your visit in any way, please let our Visitor Services staff know so that we can take steps to address the situation right away.
When will my membership expire?
Membership benefits are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase.
How long do I have to use my IMAX® vouchers?
IMAX® vouchers are valid 365 days from the date your membership was purchased. Visit IMAX Indy to view a complete listing of upcoming movies and show times.
How do I redeem my IMAX® vouchers?
IMAX® vouchers can be redeemed at the IMAX® box office for one complimentary admission to any standard engagement film (films 60 minutes or less) OR for a $5 discount toward the price of any special engagement film (film longer than 60 minutes). Vouchers are valid only at the IMAX® Theater located at the Indiana State Museum. Vouchers cannot be redeemed over the phone or online, and are not redeemable for cash.
How will I receive my parking validation during my visit to the museum?
Free or discounted parking at the Indianapolis White River State Park parking garage is available to members during your visit to the museum. When you check in at the Ticket Counter to begin your visit, a Visitor Services staff member will validate your parking.
Can my Designated Caregiver visit ISMHS with my children when I am not present?
Yes. A designated caregiver is an individual other than the two named adults listed on the membership that may bring the member children to the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (i.e. nanny, babysitter, caregiver, etc.)
Only one designated caregiver may be listed at a time. Designated caregivers must show photo identification, present the valid Family Plus membership card, and be accompanied by the member children to receive free admission. The designated caregiver does not receive member benefits and may not bring a guest. Can my guests use my membership card without me present?
No. Only the two named adults and children listed on the membership qualify to receive free admission. Guests of Family Plus members must be accompanied by a named adult on the membership.
Does my ISMHS membership allow me to visit other museums for free or at a discount?
Yes. Members at all levels receive free or discounted admissions to more than 300 Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) museums around the world. Visit ASTC for a list of participating institutions.*
Family Plus members receive free or discounted admission to an additional 800+ museums through the North America Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association. Visit NARM for a list of participating institutions.**
Do you offer reciprocal membership discounts with other Indiana museums?
Yes. Members of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites receive discounts on the purchase of NEW memberships at:
Alternatively, members of the above listed organizations will receive $5 discount on the purchase a NEW membership to the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. Please show your membership card in person to receive your discount.
How can I update my contact information?
Update your membership account by emailing our membership office at email@example.com or by phone at 317.232.1637.
I recently renewed my membership, but received another renewal notice in the mail. Did you receive my payment?
Membership renewals may take up to two weeks to receive and process. If you mailed your payment within this time, it’s likely that your payment and our notice crossed paths in the mail, and your new membership cards are on their way.
I’m visiting another institution that accepts reciprocal benefits with ISMHS, but I haven’t received my membership cards from the museum yet. What can I do?
We will be happy to provide you with a membership verification letter via email to use in lieu of membership cards. Please call us at 317.232.1637.
I lost/forgot my membership cards. Can I still visit the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites?
Yes! Simply bring a valid photo ID to our Ticket Counter. Our team will look up your membership. You can also request new cards by emailing our membership office.
I’d like to upgrade to a higher membership level. Do I have to wait until my current membership expires?
You may upgrade to a higher level membership at any time by paying the price difference between the two levels. To upgrade, simply call us at 317.232.1637.
Membership upgrades are not prorated based on the number of remaining months of membership. Your membership will maintain your original expiration date.
