INDIANAPOLIS — Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio, a Midwest leader in marionette and puppetry performance, has entered a 2-year partnership agreement with the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites to relocate their studio to the museum. The 40-year old business will move into a 2,016 square-foot space at the museum just in time for its season opener September 15.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the art of puppetry in such a popular setting as the Indiana State Museum,” said Peggy Melchior, Artistic Director of Peewinkle’s. “The move into a larger space is a testament to our continued growth.”

Peewinkle’s, operated by Indiana residents Peggy Melchior, Debbi White and Heidi Shackleford, has partnered with the State Museum in the past during the museum’s popular Celebration Crossing exhibition in December.

“As part of this agreement, the puppet studio team will also be partnering with us on workshops, camps, scavenger hunts and other educational programming throughout the two-year time period,” said Vice President of Visitor Experience Susan Dyar. “It is certainly our hope that our members and guests will see the partnership with Peewinkle’s as a benefit and that visitors to Peewinkle’s will take the opportunity to enjoy the museum, IMAX, the café and the gift shop as well.”

The opening show, Peewinkle Joins the Circus, will engage audience members by inviting them to join a gnome named Peewinkle as he learns from his friend Buttons the Clown about all the different talents that are under the big top. The show features colorful large trick marionettes with colorful music. In addition to Peewinkle Joins the Circus, other offerings this fall include Slightly Haunted (October) and Christmas at the Puppet Studio (December).
