INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 2, 2019) – Beginning Aug. 31, visitors to the Indiana State Museum can show off their true maze-master skills in a new experience full of challenging mazes and puzzles.
The new experience called A•MAZE•D: The Puzzling World of Dave Phillips features gigantic indoor puzzle mazes and encourages discovery and play while using problem-solving skills. Visitors will challenge themselves by moving their bodies along color paths and tiles to figure out correct puzzle patterns or step through mazes that might require more thought than first realized.
Children and adults alike can explore a life-sized cardboard castle maze complete with 5-foot-tall walls, an enormous 14-foot-tall tower and four tunnels. A•MAZE•D also features a unique labyrinth floor maze based on the Labyrinth Memorial located at New Harmony State Historic Site – one of the 12 locations in the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites system – plus the history behind these elaborate labyrinth mazes full of intricate passageways.
Multiple table-top mazes, maze murals and other maze displays provide hands-on challenges and fun for the whole family too.
“This experience highlights the universal fun of mazes while allowing visitors to build their problem-solving skills,” said Cathy Ferree, president and CEO of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. “We’re excited to provide our visitors with this immersive and highly engaging space where they can use their critical-thinking, science and math skills as they find answers to these mind-boggling puzzles.”
Special programming will take place throughout the experience’s run at the Indiana State Museum, including workshops and events for early childhood learners, families and adults. A•MAZE•D also will be open throughout Celebration Crossing – the museum’s holiday experience which opens Nov. 29.
“A•MAZE•D creates a wonderful stage for some really fun opportunities, from engineering exploration for kindergarten through eighth-grade students to spooky fall fun for families and adults,” said Bethany Thomas, vice president of education and engagement at the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. “There are truly challenges to engage visitors of all ages.”
A•MAZE•D: The Puzzling World of Dave Phillips will be at the Indiana State Museum from Aug. 31 through Jan. 5. The experience is included with the purchase of general museum admission, which is free for members.
