INDIANAPOLIS — Join the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites for Remarkable Women of Indiana as we celebrate women in science. Learn more about the women who helped shape Indiana and hear from those who continue to move the Hoosier state forward. The third annual event, which coincides with National Women’s History Month, takes place Saturday, March 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are excited to celebrate women in science at this year’s Remarkable Women,” said Katelyn Coyne, gallery and public programs developer for the museum. “Not only will visitors be able to meet and talk with female thought leaders from Indiana, they’ll also have the chance to explore the historic impact of some Hoosier scientists.”
This year’s keynote speaker is renowned pediatric endocrinologist and researcher Ora Pescovitz, M.D., Senior Vice President and U.S. Medical Leader for Eli Lilly and Company. Pescovitz will talk about essential leadership traits for thriving in a high-pressure environment, surviving setbacks and how to make a lasting difference through words and actions.
In addition to Pescovitz’s talk, attendees will be able to engage in a panel discussion with Women & Hi Tech about how to attract, support and promote women in technology-related fields.
Visitors can also meet the second graders from Cumberland Elementary School in West Lafayette working to have the Say’s Firefly named Indiana’s official insect. In addition to sharing their research, teacher Maggie Samudio and her students will talk about their work with Purdue to launch a Say’s Firefly into space to see if it still lights up.

1 p.m. Melba Phillips: A Hoosier Physicist by historian Jill Weiss
