This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which gave most women the right to vote. The Suffrage Block Party aims to create a fun, engaging, collaborative and safe series of events to commemorate the decades-long fight for women to vote and celebrate our achievements.

During the 69 year struggle for the right to vote, Hoosier suffragists embraced technology to have their message heard. They adapted their strategies from writing pamphlets to holding press conferences, traveling statewide in road rallies and taking advantage of newspaper coverage to convince Hoosiers that they deserved the right to vote.

One hundred years later, in the face of a pandemic, we are doing the same with our Suffrage Block Party. Using a combination of smaller in-person opportunities, virtual gatherings and interactive socially distanced activities we are taking the culminations of our centennial commemoration virtual. Adapting this event will provide a safe environment for all guests, allow us to expand our party over the week of August 29 to September 4, and create the opportunity to engage Hoosiers across our state.
