Canal Nights

Although our Canal Nights’ programs for June have been canceled due to COVID-19, we are still planning for July family fun! See below for details.

Join the Indiana State Museum on Wednesday evenings throughout July for FREE family-friendly fun along the canal and in our Great Hall. Enjoy games, a variety of hands-on activities, unique challenges, interactive demonstrations and discover great community partners.

Nature Exploration

Enjoy the summer weather on the museum’s beautiful Canal Terrace and in the Watanabe Gardens with a make-and-take kit paired with an art-making or nature discovery experience. Choose from a mix-and-match menu of activities, including worm compost bottles, leafy insect art, nature weaving, foliage resistance paintings, land art, fairy/gnome gardens and more. Each selection is provided as a kit ready for individual or family exploration. 11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m., Thursdays in July.

Family Play Days

Bring your family for a day of fun on the museum’s Canal Terrace and Watanabe Gardens with special activities based around the theme. Each activity includes a kit ready for individual or family exploration.

Daily Engagement

The museum comes alive every day through hands-on activities, engaging demonstrations, gallery theater, Make & Takes, and much more. Dive in and discover more about the world around you. These 15-minute experiences will immerse you in a scientific experiment, an art project, an animal encounter and more.
