Meet the Collector: John Simmermaker

John Simmermaker of Pulaski County collected his first antique coverlet in 1972. Since then, he and his family have built one of the most respected coverlet collections in the country with over 700 examples. His collection includes at least 400 Indiana Jacquards, including the coverlets of Woven Together, which were selected for the John and Janet Simmermaker family collection.

Simmermaker’s coverlets include remarkably rare dyes, historically interesting motifs and nearly every known Indiana weaver’s trademark. He is a member of the Colonial Coverlet Guild of America (CCGA) and has exhibited at the Midwest Museum of American Art and the National Museum of the American Coverlet.
