Experience the first day of summer in a unique way

Celebrate the official beginning of summer with a special viewing of the summer solstice! Join us early in the morning to watch the sun reach its highest point, marking the longest day of the year and the beginning of summertime. This event also highlights the significance of one of the best-preserved, pre-contact Native American sites in North America. Angel Mounds was purposefully built centuries ago to align with celestial events like the winter and summer solstices, and the site continues to hold deep meaning for the descendants of those who once lived there.

If you miss the summer solstice, be sure to mark your calendar for the Dec. 21 winter solstice. See it in a location Lonely Planet named as one of the best places in the world to witness the winter solstice!

Later this same day, Angel Mounds will be celebrating Juneteenth with FREE admission to the site from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. CT.
