Join Us In Celebration

Come celebrate Gene’s beloved Wildflower Woods during a special ceremony to formally recognize it as a community forest by the Old-Growth Forest Network.

Learn about Gene Stratton-Porter’s work to create a quiet retreat and protect the lands and forest around her. Plus, hear more about the Old-Growth Forest Network’s goal to identify and ensure the preservation and recognition of at least one forest in every forested county in the United States. With more than 250 recognized forests nationwide, Old-Growth Forest Network is creating a roadmap of family-friendly hikes that showcase the beauty, complexity and diversity of our nation’s oldest forests.

Following the ceremony, join us for a 1-mile hike to hear about the ongoing work to protect the historic site’s forest for generations to come. To participate in the hike, please wear close-toed shoes as the paths will include gravel, dirt and mulch as well as some stairs.

Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site is located at 1205 Pleasant Point, approximately 2 miles south of Rome City. Attendees will park and gather at the pavilion located near the visitors parking lot.
