A Community’s Diligent Efforts

Wayne County has a deep connection to the fight for civil rights, from having the earliest voices in the state of Indiana speaking out for women’s rights and the abolition of slavery, to those who continued the fight for equal rights in the 1950s and 60s. Join the Levi and Catharine Coffin State Historic Site and the Black Legacy Project of Wayne County as they celebrate this history. Hear from the children of local civil rights leaders as they reflect both on the work of their parents while providing perspective on where civil rights stand today.

Panelists include:

Joanna Hahn, Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites Central Region Director and Levi and Catharine Coffin State Historic Site Manager
Patty Brown, daughter of Bobby Smith
Cynthia Sawyer, daughter of George Sawyer
Lucinda Wright, daughter of Mamie Wright

This program will take place at Wayne County Historical Museum Community Room located at 1150 N A St., Richmond.

This event is presented in partnership with the Black Legacy Project of Wayne County.
