Look beyond the beauty and practicality of these blankets and interact with the materials used while exploring their complexity and global connections. Meet the Collector: John Simmermaker

John Simmermaker of Pulaski County collected his first antique coverlet in 1972. Since then, with the help and support of his family, he has built one of the most respected coverlet collections in the country with over 700 examples, including at least 400 Indiana Jacquards. His coverlets include remarkably rare dyes, historically interesting motifs, and nearly every known Indiana weaver’s trademark. He is a member of the Colonial Coverlet Guild of America (CCGA) and has exhibited at the Midwest Museum of American Art and the National Museum of the American Coverlet.

The coverlets of Woven Together were selected for the John and Janet Simmermaker Family Collection.
