FREE DAY! Juneteenth
Visiting the Indiana State Museum
Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and marks the day when
federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to ensure all enslaved people could be
freed following the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation 30 months earlier. Celebrate this time in our nation’s history with a free visit to the Indiana State Museum where you can explore the stories of real people, places and things.
Additionally, join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Marshall “Major” Taylor and the biking community of Indianapolis during the Major Taylor Festival.
Visiting a State Historic Site*
From Greek Revival architecture on the banks of the Ohio River to the home of one of Indiana’s most beloved impressionist painters, the perfect day trip is just a hop, skip and jump away. Plan now for your next adventure!
*Free admission not offered at New Harmony State Historic Site.
