Celebration Crossing

This year’s Celebration Crossing comes alive with holiday merriment from the sounds of bands and choirs. Following their arrival via helicopter on November 28th,  Santa and Mrs. Claus will entertain visitors in their new home on Level 1 of the museum through Dec. 24.  Children of all ages can ride on the Santa Claus Express, make crafts to take home and gaze into the recreated L.S. Ayres store windows rekindling holidays past.

Up, Up & Away! Helicopters At The Indiana State Museum

The Great Hall of the ISM buzzes with radio-controlled model helicopters as the Academy of Model Aeronautics based in Muncie, Indiana, alights for an afternoon of remote-controlled fun! Enjoy displays of model helicopters, artifacts from the Academy of Model Aeronautics and creating paper helicopters that can be sent off of the second floor bridge.

Celebration Crossing Opening Day

Enjoy the Indianapolis Children's Choir at 11 a.m. then gather on the museum's front lawn to witness Santa’s arrival by helicopter at noon. Once safely on the ground, they will greet the crowd and move to their home in Celebration Crossing. The day's festivities include the unveiling of the 92 County ornament tree. Children of all ages can ride the Santa Claus Express train, pose for a picture with Santa and give him their holiday wish list before he leaves again on Dec. 24.

Girl Scouts Of Central Indiana Holiday Sing

Join Girl Scouts of Central Indiana at the Indiana State Museum for the 2014 Holiday Sing. Registration opens at 10 a.m. Girl Scouts are welcome to come and explore the galleries of the Indiana State Museum, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and ride the Santa Claus Express in nostalgic Celebration Crossing. Embrace the spirit of the season and bring donations that will be delivered to a community organization. Scouts must register with Kendra Nowell at 317.924.6811. 


Session 1 sing starts at 11:30 a.m.
Session 2 sing starts at 2 p.m.


Dec. 31

Family New Year's Eve

End the year with a bang with a family-friendly alcohol-free celebration in the Governor Frank O'Bannon Great Hall. Face painting, stilt walkers, clowns and music will highlight the evening. A balloon drop at 8 p.m. allows the little ones to celebrate the New Year in style. Reservations are recommended. Call 317.232.1637 to reserve your spot.
