Brush away the winter blues with a day dedicated to creativity and color

Get ready to celebrate human creativity in all its forms during a brand-new festival at the Indiana State Museum on Saturday.

CREATE! is sure to help brighten these bleak winter days and spark your imagination with a day full of color, creativity, and hands-on activities and demonstrations. Best of all, the one-day festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will blend several creative forms, ranging from music and theater to visual arts and more, all in one downtown location.

Several community partners will converge at the museum to highlight their specialties throughout the day, so you’ll have the chance to explore something new or show off your very own creativity.

Be transported to another world through a performance piece with Know No Stranger. The group of artists will showcase their theater skills throughout the day, but your creative input will be needed to make the performance truly spectacular.

Actors with Asante Children’s Theatre also will be on hand during the morning and plan to open their rehearsals to visitors. The group will lead visitors through warm-up exercises and provide a behind-the-scenes opportunity to see what it really takes to prepare for a stage performance.

Don’t miss the dance skills of the Indianapolis Movement Arts Collective during performances in the Great Hall. The Indianapolis Ballet also will showcase 10 to 15-minute demonstrations throughout the day. Sit back and enjoy the performances, or get ready to learn a few dance steps and join in on the fun.

Check out another form of performance art with VOICES. Listen to their spoken word presentations, then use your own imagination and voice during a performance of your very own. Or, lend your voice to pieces created by well-known Hoosier songwriters during the Indiana Song Singalong.

If singing isn’t your specialty but you still enjoy music, join the Rhythm Discovery Center for drum circles throughout the day. Don’t worry about having prior drumming experience. Everyone is welcome to find their rhythm and join in the fun.

Students with Indiana University’s Herron School of Art and artists with Arts with a Purpose will host workshops and feature other hands-on art activities for visitors to explore throughout the festival.

You and your family won’t want to miss this event full of originality and inventiveness on Saturday. There’s sure to be something for everyone, and all activities are included with the purchase of general museum admission.

Plus, you can plan your visit online today and save $1 per ticket.
