Lovers of LEGO® bricks, rejoice! This blockbuster exhibition, featuring more than 80 original sculptures made entirely of LEGO bricks, is coming to the Indiana State Museum starting Sept. 29.
Designed to inspire ingenuity and creativity, THE ART OF THE BRICK is the world’s largest and most elaborate display of LEGO art featuring sculptures by artist, Nathan Sawaya. This captivating exhibition takes an ordinary children’s toy and elevates it to the realm of art.
Visitors will have the chance to get up-close with fan favorite Yellow – a life-size sculpture of a man ripping his chest open with thousands of yellow LEGO bricks cascading from the cavity – as well as re-imagined versions of some of the world’s most famous art masterpieces like Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
THE ART OF THE BRICK is sure to inspire the artist within. Visitors will have the opportunity to take inspiration from Sawaya’s artwork to create their own LEGO brick sculptures in an interactive activity area, where they can build whatever they can imagine.
“This experience captures the wonder of seeing the unexpected,” said Cathy Ferree, president and CEO of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites. “Integrating a toy into artwork allows the exhibit to appeal to visitors across different ages and interests, and this turn of perspective will inspire visitors to look for other nontraditional outlets for creativity.”
The exhibit will be at the museum Sept. 29, 2018, through Jan. 6, 2019, and entry to the exhibit is included with the purchase of general museum admission, which is free for museum members.
