As we close out Women's History Month, we celebrat As we close out Women's History Month, we celebrate and honor all of the women who have paved the way for us today across Indiana and throughout the world.

South Whitley, Indiana native and Indiana University alumna Janie Fricke's road to success in the music industry started here in the Hoosier state.

She began her professional career singing commercial jingles for well-known ads, including Red Lobster, United Airlines, Coca-Cola and 7-Up in the 1970s. After moving to Nashville, she became one of the most successful session artists, singing on more than 5,000 recordings and was known for her versatility and ability to sing in many styles. That year, she signed a contract with Columbia Records.

The 1980s saw Fricke's greatest success, with 18 hit singles, including eight number-ones between 1982 and 1986. In 1982 and 1983 she was named the Country Music Association (CMA) Female Vocalist of the Year.
