CORYDON (May 29, 2019) — Lovers of Jane Austen, history and dance are invited to the annual Corydon Capitol Ball this June, hosted by Corydon Capitol State Historic Site.

This ball will take attendees back in time to 19th-century Indiana during the Regency Period – the time in which Jane Austen’s novels are set. At the ball, visitors can learn dances from about 1816-1825 and enjoy live music and light refreshments. Attendees are also invited to wear their best period attire to the ball, to help set the scene even further.

All dances will be taught and called at the event, so no prior dance experience is necessary. But, for those interested in getting some experience beforehand, practice sessions will be held in June leading up to the dance. Details about practice sessions will be shared with those who purchase advance tickets to the ball.

“This is a fun opportunity for people to experience an important aspect of social life during early Indiana history,” said Laura Spalding, site program developer at Corydon Capitol State Historic Site. “We promise you’ll have just as much fun dancing as our Hoosier ancestors did.”

The ball will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. on June 29 at the Harrison County YMCA, located at 198 Jenkins Ct. NE, Corydon, IN, 47112.

Tickets are $15/person, or $20/Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites member couples and $25/non-member couples.

Reservations are preferred by June 26 and can be made online at indianamuseum.org/corydon-capitol-state-historic-site or by calling (812) 738-4890.
