Hunter education offered in partnership with Wild Game Cookout

ROME CITY, Indiana (Sept. 11, 2019) – Current and future hunters are invited to take a hunter education course offered at Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Indiana Hunter Education Courses provide instruction in the areas of safe firearm use and handling while hunting and in the home; hunter ethics and responsibility; game identification; and conservation management. Anyone born after December 31, 1986, is required to be certified in hunter education before they can purchase a hunting license.

The two-day course will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 28, and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Oct. 5. For more information and registration, visit https://register-ed.com/events/view/146642. The registration deadline is Sept. 26.

The Wild Game Cookout will take place after the course, at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5, and it is open to the public. At the cookout, attendees can try a selection of wild game meats, including Indiana-caught bluegill, venison, squirrel and a variety of waterfowl. Vegetarian options will be available as well with casseroles, salads and desserts made from native Indiana produce.

Gene Stratton-Porter was an advocate for conservation, and this event will feature groups that share her passion and demonstrate how easy it is to help local conservation efforts.

A $5 donation per person is suggested for the cookout, and it is open to all members of the community. The cookout takes place regardless of weather.
