MADISON, Ind. – The Music at the Mansion concert series will kick off with a performance by the Sycamore Community Band of Cincinnati on Saturday, June 10, at 7 p.m.  The band, led by Pete Metzger, is comprised of 55 members from all walks of life including teachers, doctors, dentists, lawyers and engineers.

The theme of this year’s free concert is “Big Band Memories”.  The band will perform compositions made popular by Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, George Gershwin and Harry James. Also included is an exciting Jazz arrangement of Gershwin’s “Swanee” featuring Joe Klein, the band’s drummer, and a piece featuring the SCB Dixieland Band.

“We are really excited that this high quality group is coming again to perform on the grounds of the Lanier Mansion and I want to encourage everyone to come early and bring along their favorite lawn chair and refreshments,” said Kate Brown, president of the Lanier Mansion Foundation. “The music is upbeat and fun, and Lanier’s north lawn is a beautiful and relaxing setting for our outdoor concerts,” she added.

Donations received at the concert will help fund other programs and restoration efforts at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site. The rain location for the concert will be the Brown Gym, located 100 Broadway St. in Madison, Ind.

Other concerts in the 2017 Music at the Mansion concert series include: Small Time Napoleon of Louisville on July 8, Lick Creek Band of Paoli on Aug. 12 and Zercussion of Madison, Ind. on Sept. 9.

This concert series is made possible, in part, with support from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.  Additional sponsors are the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art, River Terrace Health Campus and Thornton Terrace Health Campus.
