Limberlost to host Geneva’s Geneva

GENEVA, Ind. – Adults 21 and over are invited to the Limberlost State Historic Site Visitors Center on Friday, Aug. 19 from 6 to 9 p.m. to celebrate the birthday of author, naturalist and nature photographer Geneva Stratton-Porter.

“We once again will celebrate Gene Stratton-Porter’s birthday as well as her life in the town of Geneva,” said Bill Hubbard, Limberlost State Historic Site naturalist. “Although it was coincidence, or maybe fate that brought the two Geneva’s together, the result was felt throughout the nation and the world.”

A variety of Indiana wines and craft beers will be available to sample. Hors d’oeuvres and birthday cake will also be served.

Five short films will be shown on vintage movie projectors.

Visitors will also learn about events in Gene Stratton-Porter’s life, the town, the nation and the world during the years Gene lived in Geneva from 1888 to 1913.

Paxson, Gene’s “best Limberlost guide,” will give tours of the Cabin grounds.

Admission is $15 per person and $10 per person for Friends of the Limberlost members. Reservations are appreciated but not required.

Limberlost State Historic Site in Adams County and the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in Jay County are located near Geneva in northeastern Indiana. Part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Limberlost admission is free for Indiana State Museum & Historic Site members. General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children. The Historic Site is located at 200 E. 6th Street in Geneva, Ind., just off U.S. Highway 27.
