Limberlost to present Loblolly Wildflower Safari

GENEVA, Ind. – Guests of all ages are invited to get up close and personal with native plants at the Loblolly Wildflower Safari on Saturday, June 4 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Loblolly Marsh Nature Preserve.

A Limberlost naturalist will lead guests on a leisure stroll along the Loblolly trails to discover what spring wildflowers and plants are growing.

“Come join us on our plant safari at the Lob,” said Bill Hubbard, Limberlost State Historic Site naturalist. “Unlike an animal safari where you may or may not see critters, we guarantee you will see lots of plants!”

Guests will learn how man and animal have put these plants to use. Guests will also learn which plants are native to Indiana and which plants have been introduced, along with plants that might be harmful or even deadly.

Admission is $3 per person.

Guests will meet at the Loblolly Marsh parking lot located at 8323 N. 250 W., which is one-half mile north of Highway 18 on County Road 250 W. This is 3.5 miles west of Bryant, Ind. Restrooms are available at the visitor center just off U.S. 27 two blocks south of the caution light in Geneva.

About the Loblolly Marsh Nature Preserve
The Loblolly Marsh Nature Preserve is one of the Limberlost Nature Preserves. The approximately 1,700 acres contained within these restored wetlands are part of the ongoing effort to preserve a portion of the Limberlost Swamp made famous by local author Gene Stratton-Porter, who lived and wrote in the Limberlost Cabin in Geneva, Ind. from 1895 to 1913.

Limberlost State Historic Site in Adams County and the Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve in Jay County are located near Geneva in northeastern Indiana. Part of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, Limberlost admission is free for Indiana State Museum & Historic Site members. General admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children. The Historic Site is located at 200 E. 6th Street in Geneva, Ind., just off U.S. Highway 27.
