MADISON, Ind. — The Lanier Mansion State Historic Site will kick off its 2016 concerts series Music at the Mansion on Saturday, June 11 at 7 p.m. on the north lawn of the mansion. Launching the series will be Cincinnati-based Sycamore Community Band led by Pete Metzger.

The band, comprised of 65 members including teachers, doctors, dentists, lawyers and engineers, will perform a mix of popular and patriotic tunes from the 19th and 20th centuries.

“We are really excited that this high quality group is coming again to perform on the grounds of the Lanier Mansion. I want to encourage everyone to come early and bring along their favorite lawn chair and refreshments,” said Kate Brown, president of the Lanier Mansion Foundation. “The music is upbeat and fun and Lanier’s north lawn is a beautiful and relaxing setting for our outdoor concerts.”

Music at the Mansion is made possible, in part, with support from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. Additional sponsors include the Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art and the River Terrace Health Campus.

The concert series is free and open to the public. Donations are encouraged to help fund site programs and restoration efforts at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site.

The rain location for the concert will be Brown Gym, located at 100 Broadway St. in Madison, Ind.

Additional concerts scheduled for 2016 include: Juggernaut Jug Band (July 9) performing a blend of jazz, blues, ragtime and swing music using washboards, washtubs, kazoos, jugs and various other sundry hardware; Small Time Napoleon (Aug. 13) performing a mixture of western swing, hot jazz and folk and Conch Republic (Sept. 18) providing a high energy show of beach tunes made famous by the Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley and Zac Brown.
