METAMORA, Ind. – The public is invited to participate in an active weekend getaway during the sixth annual Towpath Dash 5K/10K Fun Run and Walk on Saturday, May 14 beginning at 8 a.m. at Whitewater Canal State Historic Site.
“Participants really enjoy coming out for this event each year,” said Jay Dishman, Whitewater Canal State Historic Site manager. “They like the ambiance of the old canal town and the scenic views of the Whitewater Valley.”
The 10K course begins in the pre-Civil War village of Metamora and snakes past the old grist mill, covered bridge-style aqueduct as well as the 19th century shops and homes. The main portion of the trail continues into the fields and woods of the Whitewater Valley alongside the original canal towpath.
Registration is $25 per person. Participants who register by April 25 will receive a free t-shirt.
Following the run, tours of the working Metamora Grist Mill and a canal boat ride on the Ben Franklin III will be available.
Metamora has more than 50 unique shopping opportunities, several bed and breakfasts and various inns for lodging. Visit metamoraindiana.com or franklincountyin.com for details.
