Did you know Indiana's first state election was he Did you know Indiana's first state election was held #OnThisDay in 1816? 🤔 Jonathan Jennings, who served as the territory's Constitutional Convention president, won the election to become Indiana's first governor with 5,211 votes. Jennings defeated Territorial Governor Thomas Posey, who received 3,934 votes. Although Posey had successfully advocated for Indiana's statehood during his term as territorial governor, he lost the gubernatorial race due to his unpopular pro-slavery stance.

Ever wonder what the Culbertson Mansion State Hist Ever wonder what the Culbertson Mansion State Historic Site looked like back in the day? Here’s a photo of the mansion from what we believe to be 1886! 

William built a home next door to the Culbertson Mansion as a wedding gift for Samuel and Louise, who were married in April 1886, and the new house would later partially obstruct this west side view of the mansion.

Did you know Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ern Did you know Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ernie Pyle was born #OnThisDay in 1900 in Dana, Indiana? 🤔 Pyle attended @iubloomington and later became a columnist with Scripps-Howard newspapers. In the 1940s, he served as a World War II correspondent and traveled with U.S. soldiers to the front lines in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and the Pacific Theater. He became known for writing columns about what it was like to be an ordinary soldier and the everyday struggles they faced. View artifacts from the Ernie Pyle collection on Level 2 of the Indiana State Museum during your next visit.
