In accordance with Governor Holcomb’s plan for Back on Track Indiana, we have made the difficult decision to cancel all of our summer camp programs in 2020. Unfortunately, due to limited classroom space and requirements for social distancing, we are unable to appropriately social distance our campers as recommended by the State of Indiana and the CDC. Safety of our campers, families and staff is our number one priority, and as a result, we have recognized we cannot hold camps this summer.

We appreciate your patience as we work through this complicated time for all of us. We are sorry for any inconvenience these cancellations may cause. If you have questions, please call Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites Visitor Services at 317-232-1637.

BRINGING SUMMER CAMP TO YOU

In an effort to provide a camp experience to our campers, we are excited to offer these alternatives to engage your campers.

WEEKLY DESIGN CHALLENGES

Each week, we will post a design challenge for your child to create, build and design using materials they have around their house. Campers will be invited to share their creations on a virtual platform. Challenges will be posted on the ISMHS Facebook page and online here every Monday. This is a free activity and all youth are invited to participate.

CAMP IN A BOX KITS

Each Camp in a Box kit has all the supplies needed to do *five activities while entertaining your campers and continuing to stay safe at home. (*The early childhood Becoming Artists Camp kit has four activities.) There will be an activity guide, including instructions and additional resources, to help further your camper's exploration. Campers will have an option to share their projects on a child-friendly digital platform. We will also have an optional daily video check-in for campers to see other campers, ask questions of museum staff, and to share their projects virtually. We will have a camp celebration at the end of each week where campers can virtually share their favorite project of the week. Information on how and when to connect will be emailed to the parent the week before the camp starts. Themes and costs are below.

You can now have your Camp in a Box kits shipped to your home or you can pick them up here at the museum or at these historic sites located around the state: Angel Mounds, Corydon Capitol, Culbertson Mansion, Gene Stratton-Porter, Lanier Mansion, Levi & Catharine Coffin House, Limberlost, T.C. QUESTIONS

  • I have two campers, do I need to buy two kits? Activities will result in one product at completion. Children can work alone or with a partner, whichever works best for your family. Families with multiple children can opt to purchase a single kit or more.
  • How do I safely pick-up my kit? We have a quick and easy non-contact delivery where we will place the kit in your trunk. Details will be emailed to you on the Wednesday before pick-up. Pick-up will take place in the circle drive in front of the Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204.
  • What additional materials are needed to complete the activities? Nearly everything will be included in the kit. Your child may need to provide their own water and scissors. For activities that call for drawing a picture with a crayon, we will only include one or two crayons. Your child may want to add to their creations from their own art stash.
  • Do I need to return anything? Nope! Once you have the kit, the materials are yours and nothing will needs to be returned.
