Christmas and Slavery: How America’s Enslaved Viewed the Holiday
Christmas could be a time of rest and a chance to participate in holiday traditions for some of America’s enslaved persons, but for others, it was viewed as a time for resistance and even an opportunity to plan escapes. Join Robert E. May of Purdue University for a conversation about his book, Yuletide in Dixie: Slavery, Christmas and Southern Memory, which explains how the holiday season was a chance for freedom. Registration required by 5 p.m. on Nov. 30.
