Honor Among Friends: Quakers and Native Americans

Before the Coffins, a man named George Shugart owned the property where their house still stands today. Shugart was one of the town founders and a known friend of Native Americans, one of a long line of Quakers called to mediate between this country’s colonial settlers and its original inhabitants. Join Earlham College professor of history Tom Hamm and Guilford College professor Max Carter to learn about the Quakers who worked with Native Americans in Indiana and Ohio, and the many challenges they faced as they carried the trust of two very different groups. Registration required by Nov. 7.
