Water Underground: How Fountain City Got Its Name
In 1878, the area known as Newport, Indiana, changed its name to Fountain City. From mills and tanneries to the area’s Underground Railroad work, subterranean springs were important to the townspeople – and they wanted everyone to know it. Children will explore the science of underground water and how people discovered and used liquid buried treasures during this interactive Spring Break program. Registration required by 5 p.m. on March 28. Recommended for ages 8-12.
